While the EXTRA 300 S is already available in a standard and a competition variant, delivered with balsa-foam wings and stabilizers, the EXTRA 300 S "Competition Special" represents a top-class product in full fibreglass technology. Light weight, with superb strength and combined with a marvellous surface, this model truely represents state-of-the-art fibreglass technology. The fuselage is being manufactured from kevlar-carbonfibre-fibreglass-herex in vacuum technology. Wings and stabilizers are likewise produced in carbonfibre-fibreglass-herex. All ribs as well as the main spar, have been designed as balsa-carbonfibre-sandwich. In order to reinforce the leading edge - regularly a sensitive area of fibreglass wings - we have applied a glass strip along the full length of the leading edge. That excludes disintegration of upper and bottom wing skin along the leading edge. An aditional new feature are shown on the control surfaces: they are designed as elastoflaps, but they also form a groove. The elevators and the rudder are readily installed by means of special hinges. The function of the hinge pin is taken by a precision fibreglass rod. Elevators and rudder feature the groove as well for a gap-free connection. Connection tubes for wings and stabilizers are purpose-built carbon tubes. The wing conection tube beares a carbon-armed balsa spar to prevent the tube from bending under high load. Undercarriage, wheel pants and spinner as well as the former set are made from carbon or are reinforced with carbon for weight reasons.
